Plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine – differences

Plastic surgery is often associated with aesthetic surgery. It is worth knowing that aesthetics is only about 10-15% of all plastic surgery. All the rest is repair, restorative, reconstructive and transplant surgery. Specialists in this profession deal with birth defects, cancer, treat bedsores or burns. This whole field was called plastic surgery at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. This was justified by the fact that this field is somewhat reminiscent of the work of a sculptor, an artist.

What is the difference between plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine? It’s quite simple. Plastic surgery is one of the fields of medicine, i.e. surgery. All medical fields have a number of legal regulations. Each surgeon works in a specialized public or private unit, uses a scalpel, cuts the body and its tissues in order to improve it. Aesthetic medicine, on the other hand, means a number of invasive procedures aimed at slowing down the aging process or significantly reducing its first symptoms. Aesthetic medicine is not an alternative to plastic surgery, because these are two completely different issues.
